MEET PERRIN FAMILY FARM

Russell

Russell has had a passion for cannabis from a young age. He was witness to the “Grow your own” movement that was evident in the South during the late 70’s early 80’s that came about from folks seeking clean cannabis. At a young age seeing these cannabis plants at the edge of the corn fields at which time he was told they were ‘big bamboo’. He saw something special in the plant before he even had a toke. Growing up in agricultural north Georgia, gardening and farming was matter of course.

He expanded his knowledge reading High Times publications, Ed Rosenthal and Jorge Cervantes grow guides, in the early 90’s. Some of the first strains he grew were NL#5, Shiva then later Ak-47 and Blue Widow were his favorites. He focused on growing indoors for decade. This was at a very small scale and a hobby while working in other industries such as culinary arts and outdoor hospitality. It wasn’t until late 2008 that he found himself moving to California due to the economic downturn that left him without work and not much to do in the South.

He was offered a job helping establish a cannabis business while living off the grid and camping for several years “on the mountain”. It was a great success when he could afford a camper with slide-outs! During that time, he helped build a home and several green houses in the Mendocino area while enjoying the benefits of Prop 215.

Then in 2014 at the age of 44 he met his wife and started a family and found his present home that has a nice little south facing step above the Ukiah valley that shouted GROW! Finally, he was able to grow the giant outdoor plants he always dreamed of. The first season was the last of the prop 215 era and the medicine it offered. Also, the last of freewheeling sales to dispensaries and buying of zip ties from the Mendocino County sheriff. 2016 was the beginning of Perrin Family Farm as an official business. The name is a dedication to his father and his before him. In doing so, the tradition of farming carries on for a 7th generation, and 2nd generation of cannabis. Visit their website.
